Architectural and Urban Accessibility Standard

Purpose

The Standard sets out the principles for designing new and renovated buildings, as well as the spaces around them, with a view to comprehensively adapting spaces to the diverse needs of users. Every space, especially educational spaces, should enable maximally independent and informed use, and should be free of architectural and urban barriers for people with special needs.

Scope

The document provides designers and contractors with tools for creating accessible spaces and facilities. It refers to the regulations and standards in force in Poland and worldwide, and indicates solutions that make it possible to meet the requirements of the Act on Ensuring Accessibility to Persons with Special Needs, as well as other architectural solutions that benefit people with disabilities and are consistent with the concept of universal design.

  • Urban standard (pedestrian routes, parking areas, street furniture)
  • Architectural standard (entrance zone, interiors, sanitary facilities, stairs, elevators)
  • Rules for buildings listed in the register of historic monuments

ScopeApplication
The Standard applies to all renovation and construction works on the premises of Wrocław University of Science and Technology and covers, among other things:
  • pedestrian routes, parking areas and street furniture,
  • the entrance zone of buildings and external lifting platforms,
  • interiors, corridors, doors and sanitary facilities,
  • fire safety and evacuation solutions,
  • stairs, elevators and lifting platforms,
  • rules for buildings listed in the register of historic monuments.
If it is not possible to apply the solutions indicated in the document due to technical, structural or conservation issues, additional consultations must be carried out with the Department of Accessibility of Wrocław University of Science and Technology.
