Information about the scope of activities of the Department of Accessibility in a machine-readable text format

Wrocław University of Science and Technology is a place where you can study without barriers – regardless of the challenges you face. Our university has an Department of Accessibility that supports people with various sensory, health, psychological, and social needs.

The assistance we offer covers education, functioning at the university, and integration within the academic community. We support applicants, students, doctoral candidates, as well as university staff.

Anyone can count on our support if they experience a disability (vision, hearing, mobility, mental health), are neurodiverse (e.g., on the autism spectrum, ADHD), go through emotional difficulties or a mental health crisis, or are in or after the process of gender transition. The Department of Accessibility provides psychological support and an individual approach. We ensure the adaptation of materials and assistive technologies.

The Department of Accessibility closely cooperates with a group of Accessibility Leaders who form a team of specialized and trained staff in the field of assistance for people with special needs and accessibility. The team currently consists of about 70 people and operates across all faculties and many university units.

In difficult life situations, crises, or problems, you can count on free help from our psychologists and psychotherapists. The university provides comfortable conditions for conversation and full anonymity. A consultation meeting lasts 45 minutes and allows for joint reflection on the problem and the best possible support. You can register for online or in-person consultations through the psychological counseling app(opens in a new tab).

As part of our individual approach, we establish an adaptation plan tailored to each person’s needs. This may include, for example: extra time for exams, changes in assessment methods, adapted exam conditions, educational assistant support, or language classes conducted at a slower pace. We also offer accessible material preparation – adapting notes, presentations, homework, and preparing texts in enlarged, digital, or Braille versions. We translate selected materials into Polish Sign Language (PJM), add subtitles, and provide audio description.

We enable the use of assistive technologies, through which you can borrow, for example, an electronic magnifier, a specialized keyboard, or a laptop with special software. Our priority is accessibility and user comfort – that’s why we are continuously working on implementing WCAG 2.1 standards in the university’s applications.

We ensure an architecture without barriers – in the Digital Guide PWr app(opens in a new tab) we prepare information about the accessibility of various facilities on the Wrocław University of Science and Technology campus, focusing on aspects such as building entrances, corridors, stairs, toilets, lecture halls, and laboratories. Many buildings are also equipped with induction loops and orientation support systems. All information can be found on the Department of Accessibility website(opens in a new tab).

If you have questions or need support, please contact us in person (building C-13, rooms 1.08 and 1.09), electronically via email at pomoc.n@pwr.edu.pl, or by reaching out to your faculty’s Accessibility Leader – they can help too!

The PWr Department of Accessibility is not just about assistance – it’s a space where your needs matter.

Studies at Wrocław University of Science and Technology can truly be accessible. Thanks to our joint efforts – they are.
