Mental Health Crisis
What is a Mental Health Crisis?

Every person has experienced, is experiencing, or will face a mental health crisis during their lifetime. Sometimes there comes a moment when you feel overwhelmed by problems, and you feel like you can no longer cope. This may be caused by the death of a loved one, a diagnosis of an illness, or living in constant stress. Prolonged states like these can lead to depression. Often, in the rush of life, we neglect dangerous signals that our body sends. Nerve pains, trouble concentrating, relationship issues, sleep disturbances, and turning to substances that only worsen health problems over time.
Some people may experience mental exhaustion for a few days, while others may suffer for weeks, months, or even years. Everything depends on the severity of the symptoms, overall mental and physical health, and the support the person receives.
Examples of Symptoms of Individuals in Mental Health Crisis:
Persistent symptoms include:
- Bad mood and stress, constant sadness, a feeling of overload and tension;
- Eating disorders;
- Headaches, hand tremors, joint pain, and rapid heartbeat;
- A sense of alienation and lack of motivation to act;
- Insomnia or constant drowsiness and exhaustion;
- Lack of interest in activities
Note: If you have such or similar symptoms, always first go to your family doctor for basic tests. This will help determine if something is disrupting your normal functioning.
